In 2006, 47 million people, or 15.8% of the population, were without comprehensive health insurance coverage. Of those, the majority cite the lack of affordable comprehensive health insurance coverage as the reason. Others say their health isn't a concern and don't feel they need the coverage.

However, in today's society health insurance is one of the most important insurance purchases you can make. Why?

• People with health insurance are more likely to receive routine and preventative care, which is linked to better overall health.
• Insurance helps people receive timely care, instead of waiting for a time they can afford it.
