Proposed Legislation Would Utilize Discount Prescription Prices Abroad

A senator from New York has proposed a bill that would allow seniors in the EPIC program to take advantage of discount prescription prices available in Canada. Often a topic of debate due to the federal law that prohibits the importation of prescription drugs, the bill was crafted so it would not violate federal law while still being able to save the state billions of dollars.

The proposed bill would allow seniors to voluntarily contract with CanaRx Services, a global pharmacy manager, to purchase prescription drugs. Support for the bill is coming from the state chapter of the AARP while opposition is coming from the Pharmacists Society of the State of New York, among other groups.

However, the cost of prescription drugs for seniors not included under this program continues to be a heated topic. Discount prescription cards are one way seniors can take advantage of prescription discounts without limitations. In addition to saving money, prescription saving cards also allow seniors to continue to get their medication from their trusted pharmacist.
