A recent University of Michigan study has shown that with regular visits to the dentist, discounts of more than 10 percent on overall medical and pharmaceutical costs could be seen for diabetes patients - further underscoring the vital link between medical and dental health. The study's principal investigator, George Taylor, DMD, commented that insured adults with diabetes who receive routine periodontal treatment, such as dental cleanings and scaling, had significantly lower medical care costs than those who do not. The study analyzed five years of claims from 2,674 members with diabetes aged 18-64.
For diabetes sufferers without coverage, dentist discount cards are a great way to obtain money saving health services while also cutting healthcare costs.
