Affordable Small Business Health Insurance Not Within Grasp for Many

Posted: 07/21/09
Affordable small business health insurance is falling further from grasp for many of the nation's companies. The 2009 Compensation Data Healthcare report found that most U.S. healthcare organizations saw an increase in their health insurance premiums, with the average premium increase being 9.9 percent for all plan types. In 2007, the premium increase was 10.9 percent; 7 percent in 2008.

High health insurance costs are cutting into the bottom line for many companies. While companies often search for ways to reduce healthcare costs, most often the price increase is passed on to employees - 63.6 percent of companies increased the employee portion of the premium in their efforts to reduce costs. In lieu of finding other affordable small business health insurance or in the face of rising premiums, many employees are turning to medical discount cards to help cover excessive out of pocket costs.
